Introduction on Membership

The Business and professionals Federation of Hong Kong (BPF) is a strategic think tank and lobbying group founded in 1990 as a successor to the Group of 89 members of the Basic Law Consultative and Drafting Committee.  It conducts research into and advocates “actions on issues of critical importance to Hong Kong.

It is non political, non factional and above all strives to promote the overall interests of Hong Kong rather than those of any single sector.

The membership comprises a wide spectrum or corporations, community leaders, academics, business and professional people committed to the betterment of the whole society.  We share the common vision of striving for the good of the whole of Hong Kong, and membership is by invitation only.  Our uniqueness lies in our relatively long and stable history as a think tank and a wide spectrum of membership.  Many of our members and advisors have strong record of public service and presently serve on some of the most important bodies in Hong Kong and the Mainland, including the National People's Congress, Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, the SAR's Executive and Legislative Councils, the Election Committee and other advisory organisations.

Whilst we offer members priority access and discount to BPF social functions, first hand research information and participation in committee work, we also provide them with opportunities to network with some of the brightest minds in town, as well as other intangible values such as enrichment of social responsibilities, leadership and good citizenship.

(1)  Active companies and associations who want to demonstrate their commitment to building a better Hong Kong will be invited to join BPF.  This will not only be a right step to show their corporate citizenship and care for Hong Kong, but also provide them with an opportunity in public policy discussion and policy making participation that is otherwise not available in trade associations.

(2) Selected senior executives who share our aspirations will be invited to join BPF, which offers a good training ground for aspiring individuals to contribute their expertise and draw wisdom from the like minds.  BPF is determined to provide senior executives with excellent leadership development and networking opportunities with community leaders.

In short, instead of what I will get from BPF, our members are offered with the challenge of what I can give to BPF?  We provide a good platform for those who aspire to help Hong Kong achieve greater success and maintain its competitiveness in the long run.  To achieve this end, our membership has been kept at a careful balance to assure the proper carrying out of our vision and mission.
